Sociological Mindfulness

The video we watched was very insightful. It really did make me take a step back and look at my life. He put a lot of different thoughts into my mind about stepping into other people’s shoes and thinking about what they are going through. Because a lot of times we go through life being selfish and only thinking about ourselves and our own feelings, but that isn’t the way to approach it. It will be more helpful for everyone (including yourself) if you just try to be more understanding of what other people feel and think and say. Instead of doing that, we all are too quick to judge, and we are only thinking of ourselves.
I feel as though I try to be mindful and understanding of the people who are close to me, because I think they will then do the same for me. Sometimes when we’re having arguments, it’s much better to step back for a moment and try to understand. A lot of times, even if I still don’t agree with them, I can see where they are coming from.  That is what it is all about, in my mind. Even if you don’t agree, you still don’t always want to put your own thoughts first. Be more open and more thoughtful of others.

I see myself fitting into the big picture of society as someone who doesn’t stand out and isn’t known worldwide, but is very helpful and good to the people who are very close to me. I don’t want to impact every single person. But I do want to make a very strong impact on the people that I do help and affect. I plan on going into the health profession and helping people a lot in that sense. I think that it isn’t about affecting a “big” number of people, but it is more about affecting having a “big” impact on the few people that we do touch.
